It is time for
change. We are the change that's needed.
The Green Party of Ontario has a full set of policies and solutions for issues facing Ontario. We believe in proportional representation so that all votes count; greater power and funds to the municipalities so that local decisions can be made by the people who live there; greater economic development of our rural areas; reduced taxes for homeowners/businesses by implementing a green tax shift off of productive enterprise and onto inefficient industries; early childhood education to ensure all our children achieve their potential; reduced university tuition rates so that Ontario can retain its economic leadership; improved health care by reducing the toxins and poisons released by industry that cause many of our health problems; etc. All of these policies are based on our key values and our belief that all political and economic decisions should be based on long term sustainability.
The Green Party is more than a political
party. It is a global movement that has created a new
approach to politics over the past 25 years. Continuing to
grow and evolve, the Green Party is becoming a global force
in politics. As we gain experience and as more voters reach
for our alternatives, we can start to imagine a different
kind of world; one in which life is about the
qualities that we value most: sustainability, integrity and
community.
Sustainability is the quality of things that can
last. It is considering the long term; or as native
people say, "considering the next seven generations."
Our energy policies must see us through this
century, not just this week. Our health policy must support
our abilities to heal and find balance, not undermine them.
Our education policies must fan the flame of discovery
inside each child, not snuff it out.
Integrity is the quality that comes from being true to your
self. It refers to wholeness, both as an individual and as
part of a comm
unity or whole nation. When people separate
themselves into categories and compartmentalize their lives,
their actions become inconsistent. Living with integrity
means being respectful and being respected. Without
integrity, societies fall apart. When governments are too
separate from the communities they serve, when their leaders
become removed from their constituents, inconsistency
thrives.
Community is the quality that
comes from supporting each other. It goes to the heart of
what government should be doing--protecting our
values and building upon the goodwill that citizens have for
each other. Building a community begins with the family, and
is followed by the neighborhood, the municipality, the
province and the federation. The Green Party understands
that building strong communities means building from the
bottom up.
Think globally. Act locally.
